Hopefully this is a case of correlation, and not causation!

Troubles with fruit

Apparently, blackberries will go bad very quickly. I guess I should have frozen them Saturday night.

I got up this morning to make a blackberry crisp to bring to work, but discovered that the berries had mold growing on them. You can imagine my distress as I dumped them down the garbage disposal. The first blackberry crisp I had made was so delicious! What a waste.

However, I had already mixed up the “crisp” part of the crisp, so I cut up the last of the peaches and used them instead. Carrying the pan to the car, I tripped as I stepped off the porch. The baked goods went flying! Fortunately, the pan landed right-side-up. However, the contents had slid, and some of the peaches were now on the driveway. The rest of the stuff in the pan was all moved around, and didn’t look very good.

I considered taking it back in the house right then and eating it to console myself, but I was able to slide everything around again so that it didn’t look quite so bad. I brought it to work, and it’s tasty - so a happy ending, I guess.

Some stuff I need to do

  • Finish the “Grandma Afghans” - these were originally supposed to be Christmas presents in 2004. Then I decided that they would be birthday presents instead. Well, Grandma Allen’s birthday has come and gone (her afghan is about 3/4 done), and Grandma Harmon’s birthday is in August. Yep, I really need to get busy on those…
  • I’d like to create an “automatic” lectionary site, so that a person could just come to my site (or the church’s site) and see what the week’s Scripture readings are - without the web pages having to be updated by hand. I’m thinking of using some AJAX techniques.
  • David wants me to knit him a little blanket for the doll he uses in therapy with kids at work.
  • Use up the rest of the blackberries and peaches we picked this weekend. So far, I’ve made a blackberry crisp, and two peach cobblers. Yum!
  • Change the design of this page, and get rid of those stupid default links in the sidebar.
  • Uh…I’m sure there’s lots more.

A young tree from an old seed

Hmmm. My first “real” post to the blog. At this point, I’d say that it’s up in the air as to whether I will actually keep a blog.

But for now, I found this article to be pretty cool. A 2000 year-old seed from Masada grows into a tree when planted at a kibbutz in Israel.

Soon and very soon…

Well, maybe not all that soon, but perhaps some time this weekend, I will attempt to monkey with the template, to see how hard it would be to make it look exactly the way I want it.

My second post

I think I’m starting to get the hang of this…

I’m just trying to see if I can figure out how this thing works with FTP.
