Troubles with fruit

Posted by Brian June 15, 2005

Apparently, blackberries will go bad very quickly. I guess I should have frozen them Saturday night.

I got up this morning to make a blackberry crisp to bring to work, but discovered that the berries had mold growing on them. You can imagine my distress as I dumped them down the garbage disposal. The first blackberry crisp I had made was so delicious! What a waste.

However, I had already mixed up the “crisp” part of the crisp, so I cut up the last of the peaches and used them instead. Carrying the pan to the car, I tripped as I stepped off the porch. The baked goods went flying! Fortunately, the pan landed right-side-up. However, the contents had slid, and some of the peaches were now on the driveway. The rest of the stuff in the pan was all moved around, and didn’t look very good.

I considered taking it back in the house right then and eating it to console myself, but I was able to slide everything around again so that it didn’t look quite so bad. I brought it to work, and it’s tasty - so a happy ending, I guess.

    I am imagining your stress…

Sorry it didn’t work out the way you wanted but I’m sure the peach was tastey.

I was sure you could imagine it! :)

Oh! I forgot to mention that while I was dumping $8 worth of blackberries down the garbage disposal, I dropped one of my spoons down there, too.

AND there’s a big grass stain on my pants.

It wasn’t a very fun morning.

This story sort of reminds me of an upside down apple pie that I made one time.

    I can’t seem to recall the upside-down apple pie…

It was when we lived in Covington, VA. So you would have been very young. Just as I went to take it out of the oven, it slipped off the cookie sheet I had it on to catch any drips, and fell upside down on the floor!!! We scraped up what we could from the bottom, which was now the top, trying not to get any of what was actually on the floor, and ate it anyway. So we called it the upside down pie, or an apple cobbler. It certainly was all cobbled up!!!!
