Make some ice cream

Posted by Brian August 08, 2005

If you can, I recommend that you make your own ice cream. I just finished off some homemade vanilla ice cream which may have been the best ice cream I ever ate.

Just don’t eat the whole batch all at once.

yeah, but what I want to know is, did you make the ice cream?

Yep! (With the new machines, there’s no salt-and-ice, and no hand-cranking to do.)

Maybe I’ll make some when you guys come down here.

    Sounds good!

And is the warning not to eat the whole batch at once the voice of experience? And do you make any other flavors than vanilla? Not that I don’t like vanilla, just wondering.

No, I haven’t eaten a whole batch all at once by myself. But I have been known to eat a whole carton (the cup kind) of Ben and Jerry’s before.

I’ve also made peach and strawberry. I got the machine last summer, when I needed something else to do with all the peaches I had picked at the orchard. I tend to go crazy when I go to the orchard.

We’re on the same wavelength, Brian. Rick and Anna and Jen and I just had a big batch of homeade ice cream the other night when they came over for dinner. I can’t say that it was the best I’ve ever made, but it was pretty good. We looked EVERYWHERE for rock salt, but they just don’t carry it in the Summer in NJ! The grocery stores kept saying, we only carry that in the winter for the sidewalks and driveways. Jen and I thought the only thing you used rock salt for was the make ice cream!

Jen says that next time she wants to make Hazlenut Gelato. I’d like to find a good recipe for mint chocolate chip. Anyway, I don’t think we’ll put the machine back down in our storage unit in the basement yet.

Hazlenut and Mint Chocolate Chip both sound great.
