Apparently, I have no impulse control

Sometimes I like to watch the Food Network channel before church on Sundays.

Yesterday, I was watching "How to Boil Water", and thought to myself: That meal they're cooking looks good. I'm going to make it! The problem was, that the cooks on the show used several tools which I didn't own.

So, after church I went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and purchased every tool they used on the show, even though I could have gotten by without some of them.

It's kind of embarrassing. I wonder why I'm confessing it on the blog?

Then, I proceeded to burn myself on my new cast-iron skillet.

Ok, first of all, I'm sorry you burned yourself, hopefully not too bad. Second, why did you have to have a cast iron skillet to boil water? and Third, what was the meal, and did yours turn out ok? and Fourth, how many tools did you purchase? and last, if you're going to write about this stuff, at least give more details!!

1. Thanks, Mom. It's not a bad burn.

2. You don't need a cast-iron skillet to boil water. The show is called that because it's supposed to be about easy recipes that "non-cooks" can do. There are two hosts: the chef, and a woman who asks lots of obvious questions, which the chef answers, just in case the viewers don't know how or why to do something.

3. It was pan fried steak with home fries and smokey chili roasted broccoli. It was pretty good!

4. I think I bought about 5 items...

Last. OK. :)

Roasted broccoli, yum, that sounds tasty.

I dislike cast iron skillets because you can't put them in the dishwasher. I refuse to own any cooking implement that cannot be put in the dishwasher.

Or maybe you can put them in the dishwasher and I'm just lying?

It was tasty! It had a lime-jalapeno butter on it.

No, you shouldn't put a cast iron pan in the dishwasher. You're not even supposed to use soap on them.

In general, I agree with your not-if-I-can't-put-it-in-the-dishwasher rule. But cast-iron skillets are just cool.

I waste all my impulse buying on books, DVDs, and art supplies.

Perhaps you should bring in some of this pan fried steak into the office Brian Harmon. I feel like I am in the need of some serious protein.

How long did said pan-fried steak, home fries, smokey chili roasted broccoli take to cook? What are home fries?

I'm burned out on work... I've worked too much the last four weeks, and now I'll have to work a lot again this week... blah

If you're concerned about healthy eating, Dan, I won't bring in any of the leftovers. Everything in the meal was fairly unhealthy, I think. Broccoli can be good, but then it was slathered in butter.

Home fries are basically fried potatoes. These had onions and bacon in them.

Sorry you've had to work so much recently. Wanna switch projects? :)

How in the world do you put onions and bacon into potatoes?

Bah! Who said anything about healthy eating!?

OK, to be more strictly literal, the onion pieces and bacon pieces were in the pan among the pieces of potato.

YOU said something about healthy eating a few mintues ago when I was over there at your cubicle. :)

That was before I had to purchase a "Chex Mix Bold Party Blend" snack from upstairs...

instead of calling it a "lack of impulse control" you should call it "AMBITION!!!!"

Yeah, ambition, that's it! :)

Though it might have been more ambitious to try to cook the stuff with the tools I already had...
