We saw nearly everything on the list

Believe it or not, we actually did see nearly everything on our list while we were in DC. I’m pretty surprised by that, but when I remember how sore my feet were at the end of every day, I know how we did it.
We stayed with my friends Matt and Stephanie Hemm, who were great hosts. They not only let us stay there, but fed us and drove us around (working around their work schedules). Thanks, Hemms! When they couldn’t drive us somewhere, we rode the Metro. They live about a mile from the Ballston Metro station in Arlington. Very convenient.
Believe it or not, below is a list of the stuff we saw while there. I’m working right now to rename and resize and upload a bunch of pictures….
- Washington Monument
- National Cathedral
- Capitol Building
- White House (outside)
- Lincoln Memorial
- Jefferson Memorial
- Vietnam Veterans Memorial
- WWII Memorial
- National Museum of American History
- National Museum of Natural History
- National Air and Space Museum
- Supreme Court
- National Archives
- United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
- Shear Madness at the Kennedy Center
- National Gallery of Art
- Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Gallery
Can’t wait to see the pictures. But most important, did you see any scared rock?
Yes, we did, Mom!
We got to walk down the steps of the Washington Monument and have a guided tour of all the monument stones donated by the states and various organizations/people. That was very cool. We just happened to be waiting for the elevator to go down when along came a park ranger saying, “Who’d like to take a guided tour down the steps?”
Anyway, the monument “stone” from Arizona is made up of three rounds of petrified wood. You can see it here:

I told David the story about Laura calling petrified wood “scared rock” as a child.
