A quick question

Without looking it up, please tell me whether or not you know the meaning of the following word:
pericope
I’m afraid that only seminary-type people will know it. “Pericope” figures prominently in a website project I’m working on. But if hardly anyone knows what it means, then maybe using it is a bad idea…
Thanks!
(Blogger’s spell-check doesn’t know the word. It wanted to replace it with “periscope.”)
Nope, never heard of it. And you know that’s bad.
Of course, we were in Greek together!
no idea.. but I’m not to smart!!
scott
Nope.
Let it go
Sure do, but i’m in Seminary, so I don’t think I count.
Never heard the word, had to look it up.
No-one is “not smart” just because they don’t know this word!
I suppose it’s sort of a technical-jargon type of word.
However, I think I’m going to folow David’s advice and just “let it go” - which means not worrying about it.
just want to say, i used the word “pericope” in a paper today and thought immediately of you.
thanks for adding the extra depth of association to a rather dry and academic word.
It’s one of my favorite words. I’m considering nameing my first son “Pericope.” I say, run with it.
I always thought of Pericope as more of a girl’s name.
But, to each his own, I suppose.
I think it’s all in how you pronounce it. If you said it like “Perry Cope,” then it could be a boys name. If you said it “Pericopee,” then it definitely has a feminine ring to it.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Pericope sounds like a medication for premenopausal women…one that I would like. Brian, this is too much fun. I hope you don’t mind me crashing your party but your blog is hilarious and interesting. Barb
Yep, I know what it means. But (he immodestly admits) I have a first class honours degree in theology!. Explain, or try something simpler
