A quick question
Without looking it up, please tell me whether or not you know the meaning of the following word:
pericope
I'm afraid that only seminary-type people will know it. "Pericope" figures prominently in a website project I'm working on. But if hardly anyone knows what it means, then maybe using it is a bad idea...
Thanks!

(Blogger's spell-check doesn't know the word. It wanted to replace it with "periscope.")

No-one is "not smart" just because they don't know this word!
I suppose it's sort of a technical-jargon type of word.
However, I think I'm going to folow David's advice and just "let it go" - which means not worrying about it.

just want to say, i used the word "pericope" in a paper today and thought immediately of you.
thanks for adding the extra depth of association to a rather dry and academic word. :)

It's one of my favorite words. I'm considering nameing my first son "Pericope." I say, run with it.

I always thought of Pericope as more of a girl's name.
But, to each his own, I suppose.

I think it's all in how you pronounce it. If you said it like "Perry Cope," then it could be a boys name. If you said it "Pericopee," then it definitely has a feminine ring to it.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Pericope sounds like a medication for premenopausal women...one that I would like. Brian, this is too much fun. I hope you don't mind me crashing your party but your blog is hilarious and interesting. Barb

Yep, I know what it means. But (he immodestly admits) I have a first class honours degree in theology!. Explain, or try something simpler ;-)
